speed dating

so...i went to harvard grad student speed dating. it was at a very nice restaurant/bar, and i had fun. i did not, however, meet mr. right...or ms. right for that matter. i don't know what to say except that all of the guys were harvard students, most of them were very nice, and seemed to be terrified of me. i don't think they appr
eciated local food, weird music or my outfit. still, it was fun to see who was out there. my favorite moment:

me: nice to meet you! i'm a composer.
guy from the physics dept: oh, really? well, i don't actually like music. i never listen to it.

me: you never listen to any music? at all? what do you like to do?
guy: well, tonight i'm going to see the star trek movie...

Good for you for going!!! That's awesome. You should keep going, and bring Terry's Christmas present with you. Not the pink polka-dotted scarf.

At Oberlin, my friend Nora lived next door to this guy in our English class who never talked. She also never heard any sound coming from his room (and it's not like the walls were thick). One day we were in her room, and we suddenly heard Beck's "Mutations" start playing really loud. We stared at each other and Nora blurted out, "HE DISCOVERED MUSIC!!!" A moment later, it stopped...as abruptly and mysteriously as it had begun.

Brava! Are you sure that star trek guy really was enrolled at Harvard? How were the others dressed?
I'm glad it was fun and that you are out amongst them!!!

i think your outfit was very nicely chosen and not at all designed to frighten the very speed dater nerds you were trying to get to know! you could have gone way more out there sartorially. perhaps a proper white lab coat with some latex gloves accented with a little blue mask. it sounds like fun to do and not scary since they were all vetted by harvard. however for some of the guys, less socially adept, it may have been scary. it an interesting concept! got to get dressed now.

here's what i love about that star trek guy: how many people would admit that they don't like music?!

just to clarify....i have NOTHING against the star trek movie...in fact i wouldn't mind seeing it. i'd just never met anyone who didn't like music AT ALL. kind of like saying 'oh, food? i'm not really into that...'

LOVED all the speed dating stories! And thank you for coming all the way up here to celebrate Mother's Day! I'm sorry that you, your music and your marvelous sense of style are so intimidating! By the way, what's your passion?

i actually do know some people who are not into food. "couldn't there just be some pill so that i don't have to eat a meal??" go figure. so i guess there are people out there who don't like music...
